Vino Veritas Ventures

About

‘In Wine, Truth’

Derived from the legendary quote of an ancient Greek philosopher, “In Vino Veritas,” Vino Veritas Ventures finds both its name and its mission: a desire for every wine lover to discover his or her own “truth” in wine. The quote by Pliny the Elder, that ancient Greek philosopher, translates to “in wine, truth.”

Vino Veritas strongly believes that every person’s “truth” in wine is based in its taste, its enjoyment and the unique palate and experiences of the individual. While wine critics, wine writers and other wine “experts” may have you believe otherwise, good wine is truly in the eye—or rather the mouth—of the beholder.

Loraine Brown, Founder

Loraine Brown, FounderLoraine Brown, CSW, is the founder, owner and Wine Consultant for Vino Veritas Ventures. A long-time wine enthusiast, Loraine not only constantly seeks to learn more about the wines she so enjoys, but also finds sharing that knowledge through Vino Veritas to be part of her wine “truth.”

Loraine’s passion for wine led her from her days of enjoying one or two “go-to” bottles (Honig Sauvignon Blanc and Mount Veeder Cabernet Sauvignons were early favorites) to exploring Napa, California and then on adventures to the vineyards of Tuscany and Umbria in 2010 and Tuscany (again – there is no such thing as too many trips to Tuscany!), Oregon’s Willamette Valley in 2011, Argentina in 2012, and Napa/Sonoma and the Barossa Valley of Australia in 2013. In fall of 2014, she took an extended trip to France and Italy, spending time in Champagne, Burgundy, the Rhone Valley and Tuscany. In 2015, she traveled to the Stellenbosch region in South Africa and to the Penedès region in Spain for further study and professional development. Through 2016 and 2017, she made return trips to both the Willamette Valley and Burgundy. In 2019, she returned to Tuscany, and also visited Austria and the Alsace region of France.

Also in 2011, Loraine successfully completed the Introductory Sommelier Course through the Court of Master Sommeliers, and obtained the Certified Specialist of Wine designation through the Society of Wine Educators.

Originally from Huntsville, Alabama, Loraine lived in Nashville, Tennessee, Charleston, South Carolina and Washington, DC before finding her way to Texas and calling Austin home in 2005.  With a love of travel being second only to her passion for wine, she’s uncorked varied and many vintages all over the world: Buenos Aires, Turks and Caicos, Anguilla, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Delhi, Khajuraho and Vieques.

Loraine maintains active memberships in the Guild of Sommeliers  and the Society of Wine Educators. She attended the Texas Sommelier Conference (TexSom) every year from 2012 to 2017, as well as the 2014 Society of Wine Educators conference, and continues to expand her wine knowledge through study, participation in local wine tastings, travel to various wine regions, and—of course—tasting and enjoying wine.
